HRP-4C – The World’s First Robot Pop Star!

HRP-4C – The World’s First Robot Pop Star!

by Bon Francisco Talampas, Jr.October 19, 2010

We’ve seen Asimo by Honda, a humanoid robot who travels worldwide demonstrating his abilities to more than 130,000 people.

And now, we’ve got another creation, this time a pop star divabot! =). She stands 5 feet and 2 inches tall, a typical Japanese woman between the ages of 19 and 29.

Her shape and joints are based on the 1997-1998 Japanese body dimension database. She is capable of the recognition of ambient sounds and also able to sing by the speech synthesis vocaloid. Meet  HRP-4C – a humanoid robot from Japanese National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.  Her first public appearance was on March 16, 2009.

Recently, the Yamaha’s finest robot, HRP-4C performed in Tokyo’s Digital Content Expo 2010, on which she was cited as the World’s First Robot Pop Star.

HRP-4C has 30 motors in her body that allow her to walk and move her arms and 8 facial motors for blinking, smiling, expressing emotions akin to anger and surprise–and, apparently, working it like a pop star.
