Hey shoppers! Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Takashimiya department store in Tokyo installed a life-sized android mannequin that interacts with shoppers and passersby. But, oops! it’s not the green one (android OS robot)

Designed by Dr. Hiroshi Ishiguro, this female robot can do over 60 different facial expressions and cycles through four main emotional states. Connected to a Kinect sensor, the robot is equipped with facial recognition software enabling it to move and react with people in front of the display.
Dr Ishiguro, the director of the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at Osaka University, is popular for his android robots or Geminoid which bear striking resemblances to real human beings. And according to CScout Japan, his partnership with Takashimaya is the first time the androids have been used in commercial setting.
