Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 PCs can take a Windows 8 upgrade. Aside from a $15 Windows 8 upgrade fee for those who purchased PCs after June 2, 2012 , Microsoft announced a promotion that later this year will let Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 PCs upgrade to the new Windows 8 Pro for $40.
When you upgrade Microsoft spokesman Brandon Leblanc told that
You will be able to upgrade any consumer edition of windows 7 to windows 8 Pro and bring everything along which includes your windows settings, personal files and apps.
The $40 price is applicable for download purchase and those preferring to buy from a local store, will be able to purchase a packaged DVD version of the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $70.
The upgrade promotion for Windows 8 Pro both online and at retail runs through January 31, 2013
