Geeks, Samsung has just unveiled its first Windows Phone 8 powered Smartphone, the WP8-ATIV S. Surprising press and bloggers, the announcement happened at the IFA trade show in Berlin along with its first Windows RT Tablet – The Ativ Tab.
As we all know, Nokia is Microsoft’s official partner (insert Lumia hey-days here) and is expected to be the first to introduce Windows Phone 8 handsets, but it didn’t happen. Samsung has deceitfully stolen the momentum with its ATIV S handset. But let’s just wait for Nokia’s turn as it will announce something bigger on September 5.
The ATIV (VITA – “Life” in Latin – backwards) ticks a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 4.8inch High Definition Super AMOLED display, also equipped with 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.9MP front-facing camera. The handset will be shipped in two memory variants; 16GB and 32GB. The device weighs in at heavy 135g and built with aluminum body. Further, it will have a microSD option so that users can increase the capacity using external memory cards. Amazingly, Ativ S comes with a whooping 1GB RAM – woaah! Taragis!
The smartphone will be available between October and November and in time for Christmas. While Samsung hasn’t revealed the official pricing, an online store in Netherlands PDAShop.nl is listing the 16GB version of the ATIV S for € 549 (about $690 US or around Php 28,900).
With Windows Phone 8 handsets slated to pour in starting next month, I wonder what’s in Google’s planning table to keep its green robots alive and more competitive, but one thing is for sure: Christmas gadgets won’t really be the same again.Woot-woot! =D
