Geeks, which do you prefer? Apple or Samsung? Though these two companies have unique products and prices, both emerge to be the global kings of smart devices including smartphones, tablets and PCs.
Analyst says that the battle between Samsung and Apple becomes stronger. Apple’s higher price against fewer products speaks volumes about the premium product line that Apple sells. Apple’s average selling price for all its products is $310 more than Samsung’s. This means that Samsung was able to ship to retailers about 20 million more smartphones, tablets, and PC’s than Apple. During the 4th quarter, Samsung sold about 66.1 million smart devices outnumbering the 45.8 million from Apple.
On market share, Samsung had 21.8 percent of all tablets, smartphones, desktops and laptops shipped during the same period, while Apple had only 15.1 percent. Other players each had less than 7 percent of the market for all these devices, with Lenovo at 7 percent, HP at 4.6 percent and Sony at 3.6 percent. The total number of shipments for all vendors was 303.6 million (Source: IDC).
By 2016, IDC predicted that tablets will be the second most popular device shipped while smartphones will account for 66.7% of all smart devices shipped. It is also expected to ship about 2.1 billion devices that same year. That is huge!
