Sharp may be better known for home appliance, TV in particular. But the Japanese company has been into smartphone business for some time now and they’re expanding sales in the Philippines with the introduction of Sharp SH530U.

Sharp SH530U runs on a dual-core Cortex A9 processor ticked at 1GHz coupled with 512MB RAM. Sharp SH530U is powered by 1950 mAh battery with a promised talk time of 9 hours and 560 hours in standby mode, it has a 5-megapixel rear-camera that can shoot a 720p HD video and a VGA front camera.

Sharp SH530U is a midrange smartphone with a 5-inch 5-point multi-touch large display and supports dual SIM, dual standby functionality. One of the SIM slots offers 3G connectivity. It also comes with 20GB internal storage and oops, sorry no microSD slot for further capacity expansion. Measuring 9.9 mm thin, the looks of this device reminds me of HTC One X, Sharp SH530U features a strong, light, durable unibody.

There aren’t any hardware buttons at the bottom of the screen, they’re all touch dependent. Sharp SH530U runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich equipped with customized Feel UX user interface (UI) and like most UIs – the lock screen gives you quick access to certain apps such as dialer, camera and messaging apps. The UI’s design is unique and the control is highly intuitive, while maintaining its aesthetic appearance.

I had this phone for a couple days (just for review) and the experience was just fine, haven’t encountered any problem aside from its being slow sometimes. For video/movie fanatics, the phone’s big screen is really a plus surprisingly, though not as sharp as galaxy note but sharp enough for video playback. And with the 5inch screen size, its fair enough to be considered as Phablet.

Overall, the design is sleek and seamless while the matte texture on its back feels good in your hand. SHARP’s Feel UX user interface provides a highly personalized experience. Undoubtedly, this phone is a good buy if you will mainly use it for media.
