Hey guys, here’s another android phone from O Plus. We reviewed its premium model, the O+ 8.12 over a month ago and could really say, one of the best and worth-buying android phones in the local market. And now let’s feature another O Plus model, a more affordable one, the O+ 8.52.
O+ 8.52 is basically the O Plus’ mid-range entry phone and at a price of Php 5,995, you’ll get a smartphone with really decent 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. The pictures and videos taken from its rear camera could really speak of its capability of rendering images with quality. It’s not overrated, it produces images that you would really be proud of saying it’s taken from your phone. And another plus, in spite of its low price tag, the video is recorded at real 720p high definition format – no stir! =)
Sporting a 4-inch IPS touch screen, the O+ 8.52 outputs a vibrant display. Boasting a high resolution of 480×800 pixels, it’s bright and clear, fair enough to see everything in the screen even if you’re using it outdoor or in with direct sunlight. Though most of the smartphones now are going wild with its sizes (Recommended reading: Samsung Mega) and transforming everything into phablet mode, still, for some users nothing could beat a smartphone that is handy and fits in almost every pocket. O+ 8.52’s 4-inch size is perfect enough that you can hold it in your palm without giving any strain in your hand, it is ideal for single handed operation.
Yes, it is a dual core smartphone. O+ 8.52 is powered by MediaTek MTK6577 which features a dual 1GHz Cortex-A9 application processor from ARM, a PowerVR Series5 SGX GPU from Imagination Technologies, and the combination boosts application and browser performance by up to 40% compared to single-core platform. It can relatively run almost every apps in the Google Play store. Flipping from home screen to apps drawer as well as browsing multiple pages from its native browser is relatively smooth. Though it has only 512MB RAM, it is the first O Plus device that runs on Jelly Bean, overrunning the much expensive 1GB equipped model O+ 8.12 which ships with ICS version. And whatever the purpose of porting the 512MB device to Jelly Bean, Google has done some good favor with it – probably on memory management. Proof is, upon upgrading my other device that is also has 512MB RAM, I noticed some improvements particularly in handling processes of some memory demanding apps. Well, back to O+ 8.52, all in all, it runs great on Jelly Bean. =)
When talking of smartphone, my consideration would always go for weight and thickness. And what I like most about this device is its being light and handy. It’s much lighter than my O+ 8.12 and the curve shape in each corner makes it look more elegant. I find the back cover smooth. It is well built with matte finish which prevents slipping when holding it. It stays firmly in my hand.
This device features two buttons on each side, the power button on the upper right side and volume rocker on upper left side. And on its top edge, you’ll find power port for the wall charger and a 3.5 mm jack for your headphone. O+ 8.52 comes in black and white.
After all those glimmering specs and level of satisfaction, the fanfare ends here =( Sadly it has only 1450mAh battery. Surely, it is not enough to power you for a whole day operation in WiFi mode or in 3G. Though I manage to let the device lasted a day but it’s with minimal internet use. But if you’re just a casual smartphone user, you won’t have any issue with this one.

Summing it up, I would say that everything for me with O+ 8.52 seems to be great. Aside from its phone features and specs, I would always consider the company’s patented feature for its smartphones, the Air Shuffle technology, from taking and browsing pictures to browsing music tracks, it’s definitely a “taragis” plus for an O+ smartphone. And with its low price of Php5,995 for a 4-inch smartphone, it’s really a wise buy for me, enough to compete with other leading smartphones of the same specs. You may check out for O+ 8.52 at all O+ stores and retailers nationwide or you can visit O+ USA Facebook page
