At the top of O Plus USA’s number of quality and high-end smartphones, the company needed to flex its muscle to come up with O+ Ultra 2.0, another alternative for users who are after a budget option. Being, O Plus USA, there is always a smartphone to plug this segment of the market. And aside from being affordable, let’s have a look at some interesting things to take on-board about O+ Ultra 2.0.
Upgrading from its previous version’s 1GB, 2GB of RAM means added speed and better performance. Yes, it can be considered generally faster despite a few lags experienced during the test period.
Navigating and browsing through multiple apps is not a problem. O+ Ultra 2.0 is powered by MediaTek MT6582 chipset featuring a quad core 1.3 GHz ARM Cortex A7 CPU. It’s also equipped with Mali-400 MP2 GPU making HD games and videos to run smoother too. Some games were tested including the Clash Royale and it fared well.
Another huge thing about this device is its 16GB internal storage which is twice bigger than the usual 8GB offered by other brands within the same price category. And if it’s still not enough, an additional 32GB can be fired up using the microSD card slot making a total of a whooping 48GB internal storage. The box comes with a free 32GB SanDisk memory card. O+ Ultra 2.0 also supports USB-OTG.
With this huge amount of memory, multitasking is not a problem and more apps, images, music, videos, and other multimedia files can be stored.
Check out the performance benchmark test results for O+ Ultra 2.0. Testing it with AnTutu, it reached 23,968, and with Nenamark2, it scored 50.8.
Impressive built and design
Just like its previous version, O+ Ultra 2.0 doesn’t only look impressive but also solid and pricey. With its sleek and slim design (dimensions of 150.5 x 76.5 x 8mm), it feels solid in the hand and everything looks well-stitched together. Painted in matte bronze, the back panel is made of plastic but still looks sturdy. And having built with this kind of material prevents it from the unwanted dirt marks and fingerprints.
The power button is placed at the right side of the device next to the volume rocker and microSIM card slots (with retractable tray found in iPhone), while located at the upper left is the microSD slot also with a retractable tray. The package comes with an ejector tool for the retractable tray.
On top of the device are ports for the 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB.
Found at the lower end of the front panel are three Android Lollipop-inspired capacitive buttons: left end for Recent Apps, the middle for Home Menu, and the right end for Return/Back button. The right bottom of the device houses the tiny hole for the built-in microphone.
Placed at the back panel are the 8-megapixel primary camera, the second microphone for noise-cancellation, and the speaker grill.
It’s nice to note that O+ still gives importance to the audio section. Sound recording and making calls capture clean sound, and the loudspeaker delivers a well-balanced output with a decently loud volume.
Improved display and camera
The device comes with a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with HD screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The IPS panel does a good job by rendering decent viewing angles.
Ultra is the first Lollipop smartphone of O Plus, and complies with the Android L aesthetic which basically follows the Google’s Android Lollipop material design guidelines.
For the camera, O+ Ultra 2.0 sports a decent 8-megapixel primary camera with LED flash. The images taken (as seen below) are great enough having real and good detail of color and sharpness.
The front-facing 5-megapixel camera, also with LED flash, is very satisfying because of its “panoramic selfie” feature allowing taking selfies including all in the moment. And just like most Android devices, other camera app features include face detection, multi-angle view, continuous shots up to 40 shots, self-timer, HDR, and Panorama options.
Long-lasting battery capacity
O+ Ultra 2.0 comes with a massive 4,000 mAh Li-Ion non-removable battery which could probably be its unique selling factor. This huge amount of power allows longer hours for taking more selfies, watching videos, surfing the web, playing games, and keeping updated with all social media accounts all day and night even until the next day. The battery could last more than 2 days but with heavy use of WiFi, games and music, the device lasted for about 49 hours, roughly 2 days. Also, with this size of battery, your power bank will have to take a rest.
On top of this, O Plus USA has incorporated a custom-made battery saving feature, branded as the Power Plus. Whenever the battery life reaches 50% or below, the Power Plus feature allows the device to redirect its display to a black and white home screen, minimizing power consumption. During this mode, you can select up to three active apps to be used. But just like most of the power-saving features do, connectivity becomes very limited. While Power Plus turns off data, WiFi, and bluetooth connection, it keeps the very basic feature going like the call and text functions.
