Barra also visited the Philippines several times and has partnered with the online shopping store Lazada. While Xiaomi’s global presence has been improving, its performance at home in China has been steadily declining.
Hugo will end his Xiaomi tenure after the Chinese New Year, and will return to Silicon Valley — where he served as Google’s vice president of Android product management until 2013. Barra will be succeeded by Xiang Wang, a senior vice president at Xiaomi.
