Facebook is the busiest site on the internet and needs no introduction. Well, ever wonder where your Facebook profiles or uploaded pictures being stored?

Curently Facebook leases space in about six different data centers in Silicon Valley, located in

  • Santa Clara
  • San Jose
  • San Francisco

The company has also leased space in three wholesale data center facilities in Ashburn, Virginia. Both Santa Clara and Ashburn are key data center hubs.

In a recent event, Facebook released the designs of its own new data center which is being built in Oregon and in status of finalizing the completion meeting the next week’s formal opening.

The new data center is located in Prineville Oregon which was initiated by a ground breaking ceremony over a year ago (January 21, 2010). The site shelters 147,000 square feet and said to be the most energy-efficient computing warehouses ever built.

Here’s what it looks like. =)

The Oregon center holds storage and computing capacity equal to approximately half of what Facebook already has today. The company has 690 billion page views each month and has more than 500 million members who upload 100 million photos a day, and make 18,000 comments every second.

In general, as Facebook users, we can aesthetically say that our profiles together with our precious pictures and list of friends are too lucky enough that they are all being housed in those very futuristic racks!  So what you think about it? =)
