Hey guys, I have here Beats Mixr headphone, one of the top of the line models of Beats by Dre. The Beats Mixr on-ear headphones were made with DJ’s in mind. World famous disk jockey David Guetta challenged Beats by Dr. Dre to create the perfect set of world-class ear cups. So, one year and thousands of prototypes later, the outcome was Beats Mixr DJ Headphone, one of the lightest, loudest, and most durable headphones ever.
So, here’s what I’ve been using this past couple of days, Beats by Dre Mixr headphone (courtesy of ClubBeats).
With the DJs in mind, Beats Mixr is technically designed to be heard over parties and is built with extremely deep bass at extraordinarily high volume. And as we usually noticed, it’s common for a DJ to take off one cup of his headphones so that one ear could hear the outside sound while the other ear hears the track he’s cueing up in his headphones. Beats Mixr has rotating earcups that swivel back behind the ears, and then rotate back for total isolation.
The fit of this headphone is quite tight; the clamping force is hard on my ears. It’s actually uncomfortable the first time I put it over my ears, but as I continue wearing it for hours I get used to it, the feeling of heaviness gradually fades and with the right music on track, I’m loving it. I think the tightness is specifically made for better sound isolation, it helps fit snugly over your ears so that the sound does not leak out.
I’m not neither a DJ nor an audiophile, but here’s my personal perspective, Beats Mixr midrange is a bit more forward than normal and the bass is tight and not boomy so there’s no bass vibration. It’s actually good as it didn’t overemphasize the mid lows. Having that tight bass keeps the mid so natural. Highs are actually very smooth, not any bit of harshness at all. I tested out a wide variety of music from classical to hip hop and I even used it while listening to DJ Foxy of Pinoy Radio Online and everything sounded fantastic. At times, I raised the volume way more than my ears could handle, and the Beats Mixr did not show any sign of distortion in the audio at super-high volumes.
About the design, with the Beats logos properly placed, it looks appealing and showing off both elegance and style. It really looks cool and awesome. The design is sturdy and I don’t think it will break effortlessly. You won’t find obvious signs of weakness and while bending it fully, stretching it to the maximum level, the Beats Mixr can really withstand these kind of pressure tests. Though, this test doesn’t mean that the headphone is unbreakable, but I’m sure it’ll last long before it breaks. I like its curved edges and its being sleek. The cushioned headband is thin and lightweight, and it flexes easily. While the metal earcups holder has a matte finish which I personally like; it looks so tough and premium. I guess that the combination of metal and dense plastic works well adding up high precision and overall feeling of quality. They do really good job in fighting with finger prints as well.
The Beats Mixr come with a wire that can be used for mobile phones as it includes a microphone and volume control, as well as a more heavy-duty wire that can be used to hook up to your DJ equipment. The cables are Beats specific; both are red rubber-coated and well-constructed to be tangle-free. One of my favourite features on the Beats Mixr is the dual input ports on each earcup. So basically you can put your audio cable into the either the left or right earcup. And you can also use the extra input to daisy-chain the headphones for a second listener.
All in all, you will like its curved edges and its being sleek, and its 40mm driver on-ear design really gives discrete comfort on the head. While the accents are bold like those red cables, the overall aesthetic style comes simple and minimal. At $250, Beats Mixr is really a premium headphone with an added value of David Guetta’s seal of approval. It is sturdy yet compact headphone that’s good for listening to a wide variety of music. The bass is really clean and noticeable and the kicks are much more powerful.
