Just in time for the forthcoming holidays, Globe Telecom is promoting a mobile mode of payment called Globe Charge, giving merchants and retailers more income opportunities. Aside from discounts earned from transactions, Globe Charge also waives fees for credit card transaction or services.
For merchants availing of the service on or before December 15, 2014, a merchant discount rate or MDR charged by the credit card company to merchants is waived for the first six months of the service. Business owners would benefit from accepting credit card payments with reduced deductions on their settlement fees from credit card companies.
For example, a retailer’s P300.00 transaction from a regular Globe Charge Visa or MasterCard credit card payment usually incurs an P8.70 or 2.90% MDR charge, plus the withholding tax of P1.50 or 0.50%. Availing Globe Charge service would mean that no MDR deductions will be imposed for a period of six months commencing on the date the service is activated. Instead of earning just P289.80, retailer gets a higher settlement of P298.50, or a business earning increase of almost 3%.
