Local distributor Novo7Tech has brought in to the country the Meizu MX4 Pro at a retail price of Php 20,990.
In a media event last Friday, the company’s IT Director Mr. Adrian Lim showed off some of the best features of the MX4 Pro, this new Android phone is still the first in the local market to pack a 2K (2560 x 1536) display, which works out to be a ridiculously high 546 ppi density on the 5.5-inch panel.
The display’s technology is made by Japan Display Inc., the same company along with the LG Display Co Ltd. that supplies LCD for iPhone 6, the screen is also protected by Gorilla Glass 3 from Corning.
Other specs include a Exynos 5 Octa 5430 chipset which carries 2.0GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex-A15 and
1.5GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU, there’s also a 3GB RAM, 32GB of storage, a 3350mAh battery plus support for both TD-LTE and FDD-LTE networks. This is all inside a 158 grams body with a 9.0mm-thick metallic bezel, though the phone is just a tad thicker towards the middle due to its curvature.
Aside from its size, the MX4 Pro brings other big changes, including a fingerprint scanner on its home button called mTouch. Mr. Adrian demoed the capabilities of the mTouch, aside from the flexibility of reading owner’s finger print (its omnidirectional, it can scan no matter what direction or orientation your finger is placed on the sensor), it uses a TrustZone baked into the Samsung Exynos chip to process the fingerprint data, meaning hackers won’t have access to it.
Another exemplary feature of the MX4 Pro is its Hi-Fi audio capability, or “Retina Sound” as Meizu likes to call it. This is courtesy of the ES9018K2M 32-bit DAC with its high signal-to-noise ratio. The MX4 Pro uses two film capacitors (Panasonic 0805 film capacitor) and several high-precision and low-temperature-drift resistors to remove the background noise. This Hi-Fi technology is surely a must for audiophiles, or any music lover that expects high precision and high fidelity audio characteristics.
As for cameras, the rear shooter uses the same 20.7-megapixel Sony IMX220 sensor with f/2.2 aperture of the original MX4, but it’s now equipped with an improved image signal processor that reduces noise, while still offering 30 fps continuous shooting and 4K video capture. The front-facing camera has been upgraded to a 5-megapixel version which also supports auto-focus and 1080p video recording.
