As bluetooth continues to be a growing feature and is anticipated to be particularly attractive to the growing population of Android phone users, portable Bluetooth wireless speakers have entered the mainstream.
The emergence of Bluetooth speakers that you can throw in your backpack or slip in your pocket has taught the public that the Bluetooth is about more than hands-free calling, providing a convenient way enhance their enjoyment of music wherever they are.
Fenda has unveiled W18BT Swan Portable Bluetooth Speaker
Measuring 83mm by 80mm, this swan inspired design, pocket-sized neo-alloy built speaker is made for professionals and entertainment lovers. Working on Bluetooth 4.0 and bearing a high-capacity lithium-ion battery, it offers clear sound and seamless connections.
Controls along the top include Bluetooth discovery mode, volume up/down, forward and previous, at the bottom you’ll see the power button and at the lower back portion, the microSD charging port.
Below the touch panel is the red breathing light, while the 2 inch full range Neodymium speaker driver is located beneath the light.
Using the device is as simple as turning it on and you’re good to go, it also comes equipped with NFC to simplify pairing. I tried it with my Z3 and I also used it with an iPhone, and everything’s sweet and sound.
The W18BT Swan pairs seamlessly with iOS and Android devices over Bluetooth. When you turn it on the first time, the speaker goes into discovery mode to make itself visible to other devices. On an Android device, you just have to go to Settings and look for the speaker listed in Available Devices. If you have an NFC-equipped Android device, just touch the speaker and the mobile device together for the fastest pairing — you’ll see a pop-up on your mobile device that asks if you want to pair it with the speaker. Click Yes, and you’re set. In iOS, go to Settings > Bluetooth, where the FENDA Swan should appear under Devices.
The blue light indicator on top of the speaker blinks until the FENDA Swan pairs with your mobile device.
It also functions as a speakerphone for calls. You’ll hear it saying, “incoming call” repeatedly instead of the usual ringing tone. The built-in microphone relays your voice clearly to the person on the other end of the call, and you get the benefit of hearing the voice loud and clear.
In terms of audio, it delivers a very good sound quality filling up my entire room; it does a good job of delivering stereo sound while bass, mid and high ranges are all well-balanced. And though it delivers that good, it isn’t absolute, with 2 watts of power, the Swan gets loud enough to be heard outside above the sound of passing vehicles, but it tends to distort as you maximize its volume capability. But, overall, considering the small built and the 2-inch neodymium driver, it’s fair to say it does a good job and I had a nice audio experience with it, specially the 360 degree 3D sound field, which I find it cool and enjoying it for the first time.
As for the battery, FENDA W18BT Swan takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge itself. Its battery lasts for about 5 hours of continuous use (playing music, receiving several phone calls).
